I need funding to attend the ISTE conference being held in San Antonio from June 26th-28th to learn about innovative practices in educational technology.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen in NYC. I have students from various backgrounds, home situations, and income levels. The majority of my students do live below the poverty line and many aspire to be the first in their families to attend college.
My students are passionate, unique individuals who come to our school to be engaged with real-life challenges and issues that are integrated into every area of the curriculum.
All students who attend our school have an interest in business, entrepreneurship, technology and sports.
My Project
I would like to attend the ISTE conference in San Antonio to engage in professional development sessions that will enhance my work as a special education teacher in Social Studies and as our school' new computer science teacher next year. This upcoming year will be my first year as a special education teacher after serving 10 years as a general education teacher.
I am confident that the knowledge that I gain at this conference will enable me to create engaging experiences to make history content more accessible through the use of education technology tools.
Many of my students are reading at below grade level and disengage from classes that require a large amount of reading. This conference will allow me to participate in sessions and network with like-minded professionals over the span of 3 days to add new teaching strategies to my teacher toolbox.
