I need four brand new professional development books focusing on math workshop, building thinking classrooms, diverse read alouds, and reading strategies.
Many have said, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks," but I beg to differ.
Please provide this "old dog" with some new professional development books to use for summer professional development.
The first book is an addition to Building Thinking Classrooms. It will provide suggestions for using this strategy in various formats and subject areas, rather than just during math. The second is Math Workshop. Our school believes in math workshop and I am always looking for new ways to format this structure to best meet the needs of all students. The third is Rebellious Read Alouds, which suggests amazing culturally diverse texts that are culturally appropriate. The last is Reading Strategies, which is chock full with amazing strategies to implement during read aloud and guided reading lessons.
I am so excited to read these texts over the summer, reference them throughout the school year, and use them to develop professional development workshops or materials that I can share with my colleagues and fellow teachers. These texts would strengthen my teaching capabilities and push me to stay up to date with the latest and greatest suggestions for teaching.
Students will benefit from these resources because I will work towards implementing what I learn from them in the classroom. They will create a stronger foundation for our math workshop and reading workshop times. They will help us add cultural diversity to our classroom library and read alouds. What I learn from these books will help me create a stronger learning environment that all students can benefit from.
