Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help my students get physically fit with fun and safe exercise equipment! Staying active for at least 60 minutes a day will help them stay healthy and alert, which will improve their ability to learn throughout the day.
My students have been requesting better outside "toys" to use when we are active on the playground.
The ones we have now are worn, and don't motivate them enough. They are a class of transitional kindergarteners, which means they will be turning 5 before the end of the year.
We are a Title I school, and these students are diverse culturally, economically and linguistically. Our class includes students that are both English and non-English speakers, as well as, students with disabilities. Many of them do not get the chance to participate in physical fitness activities at home.
My Project
My students love recess and psychomotor time! In fact, it is their favorite time of the day. Wouldn't it be yours, if you were four? We have a 30 minute psychomotor time, plus another 30 minutes of recess time, for a total of 60 daily minutes devoted to movement, active play, and developing fine/gross motor skills.
Last year, they asked for more "toys" for our yard, which is the inspiration for this project.
Please help us increase and restock our physical fitness equipment so that more children can play together each day.
When it comes to four year olds, like any other supplies, physical fitness materials need to be fun, safe and inviting. To develop eye/hand coordination, we are requesting balls, Katch and Throw games with extra Grab balls, and fluff balls. Jump ropes and hula hoops will provide fun aerobic exercise.
Balance boards will be a fun way to increase balance and strength. A variety of inflatable balls, along with a ball inflator to keep them inflated, will help with gross motor skills. Our students will get lots of active play from these items. While playing and strengthening their physical bodies, they will also be learning to share, take turns, and play together as a team.
By funding this proposal, you will be providing wonderful equipment that will help my Transitional Kindergarteners become physically fit! With the help of Target, these children will be healthier and more active!
