it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title 1 school, which means it has been designated as being highest poverty in our district. Our school is a place where collaboration and parent involvement are the key to social and academic growth in our students. We have a safe and nurturing environment to help students blossom. My students are beautifully unique and embrace learning.
As a Title 1 Literacy Specialist at our school, I help the most at risk first graders learn to read and write before falling critically behind.
I tailor instruction to meet the needs of every single child that comes to me, and every project is specifically designed with them in mind.
My Project
This donation was kid inspired because my students desire be able to do something they instinctively need to do - wiggle! So many students, especially those that are "at-risk", struggle to be still and focused for hours at a time while learning. As the literacy specialist, the students that are with me need additional support and interventions, and these Hokki stools have been proven to help students strengthen their core and increase their focus by transforming stationary sitting into an activity!
This project will help students to move actively throughout the day, at least for the hour they spend with me getting intensive instruction each day.
In small groups, they will be able to actively use their bodies and minds to brainstorm and increase their literacy skills! Our hope is that other teachers will see how effective the stools are at helping students focus and learn, and they will want to add movement to their own classroom!
