it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I school, which means it has been designated as being highest poverty in our district. Our school is a place where collaboration and parent involvement are the key to social and academic growth in our students. We have a safe and nurturing environment to help students blossom. My students are beautifully unique and embrace learning.
As a Title I Literacy Specialist at our school, I help the most at risk first graders learn to read and write before falling critically behind.
I tailor instruction to meet the needs of every single child that comes to me, and every project is specifically designed with them in mind.
My Project
The perfect idea of "healthy" to most of my students is not exactly healthy. My students and I want to change that by growing our own greens and herbs to create homemade smoothies and salads. This will be done using an indoor gardening system that will teach students firsthand about eating nutrient dense foods. Students will be able to redefine what "healthy" is by sampling delicious salads and smoothies featuring our own home grown plants blended right in our own classroom.
When students come in for their intensive interventions, they are often hungry or lack energy needed for brain power.
Through this exciting project, students will witness firsthand the energy and focus boosts that come from replacing their junk food with nutrient rich food! Also included in this project are healthy snacks and plenty of cases of water. If a student hasn't eaten, I want my classroom to be a resource for them to use without being embarrassed.
