TALKING TO MYSELF

Help me give my students in ESL the tools and confidence they need to learn and practice listening/speaking skills to build a foundation in the English language. My project is building a library of students speaking responses .

My Project

My students are elementary students from different language backgrounds. Some years I've had 15 different languages and some years just one. Success in language skill building starts with listening and speaking. My project will help them become confident communicators through creating a library of books that they create by answering a variety of prompts about their world.

Talking to Yourself is a chance for all students to shine at whatever level they are at with the English language.

They will use headphones to answer prompts and create book pages on their laptops to add to their own book in our library. Students will progress from one word answers with pictures to speaking with assurance as they produce multiple sentences to answer interesting questions about themselves and their world. The will be able to track their own progress as I monitor and adjust their assignments. They will also be able to keep these books in an archive that will be with them throughout their school career. It also lets future teachers see the progress they have made. This is a fun and creative way for students to overcome the shyness of speaking out loud and also speaking into a computer mic as they need to do on English proficiency tests.

Please help my students create a meaningful, creative and fun project while improving their speaking and listening skills. You will be giving them the confidence as well as thinking and speaking ability that will let them contribute to their class and community now and become successful in their future endeavors.
