My students need I pads to help them learn and communicate. Most are non verbal and can not speak. However, all are able to manipulate an I pad.

My Students

My students are active, curious learners who love to move. The all have severe cognitive disabilities and require additional time to learn basic information so we focus on life skills and functional academic skills. Half the class can not communicate verbally.

These children are the stars of the school- known by everyone for their positive outlooks and smiles- no matter what health or physical challenge they face.

We are a Title 1 school servicing children from K-3. We live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and many of our students face economic hardships every day.

My Project

My students are non verbal or have limited speech. They also have limited motor skills and attention spans. I pads allow them to communicate by pointing at icons and having the I pad talk for them. The interactive manner of the I pad allows them to practice new skills and keep them engaged.

My cognitively disabled students are learning to add subtract, read and speak through I pads.

If each child had one, I would be able to customize each one with icons specific to their needs. I'd also be able to teach them how to work a daily schedule that they could use in and out of school.
