Help me give my students a firm foundation in number sense and increase their confidence in manipulating numbers. This Number Talks program will help me tailor the lessons to the specific needs of this group.
Our school is in a small town in Maine, where over a third of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My amazing students are bright, energetic, eager, fun, and just plain cool; I am so lucky to be their teacher!
I have just moved up to 4th grade from 1st and am so excited to introduce some unique study units to my students.
I am excited to teach math and want to help equip these kids for their future.
My Project
Math can be very daunting to some kids, and my current group is no exception. On the first day of school, I asked them how they would complete the sentence, "Math is...". The answers I heard were sad and overwhelmingly negative. This is a far cry from my eager 1st-graders last year who loved math!
I want to instill an understanding of math; to unravel the scary bits and help them see the beauty of numbers and patterns.
This program will help me do that by showing the kids that math doesn't have to be overwhelming, and they CAN learn it!
