My students are enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology. My students come from all socio-economic statuses and cannot all afford to purchase supplies for classes. All of the students that take anatomy do so because they have a desire to learn more about themselves and how the human body works.
Many of my students have the desire to pursue medical careers in the future.
This is the first step for them to understand the type of rigor and depth of information they need to be successful in college. Adding a novel provides students with concrete examples of how the information relates to the "real world."
Students have a great desire to not only understand how current medicine affects their lives but the history behind it.
My Project
The brain is arguably the most important organ in the human body. Studying the human body helps gain an understanding of ourselves and science.
How does someone with a traumatic brain injury survive with no ill effects?
How does a virus attack the brain and slowly cause it to breakdown over time? These and other stories relevant to the nervous system are found in thus book. It is detailed with enough history, tales of real peoples injuries, and current science to hook the reader and help them delve into this book. Once hooked the science helps the reader understand the complexity of the brain.
