Taking the Next Step with Tech

My students need an Epson document camera to have visual learning opportunities and a rug to cover technology wiring, preventing trips and damage to our valuable learning tools!

My Students

Too blurry! Can you move it over to the right? What does that say? That doesn't make sense. This is just a sampling of what I hear when I turn on our outdated overhead projector. Please save us from the overhead and bring us up to date with a document camera.

We are a high-needs, high-poverty, urban third grade class.

Many of my students live in housing projects where there is a high incidence of violence. Many of my students are learning English as a second language, some of whom have recently arrived from other countries. Almost all of my students qualify for free and reduced price lunch. When my students come to school, I want them to feel safe, nurtured, and inspired. I work hard as a teacher to stay current and fresh in my teaching, but unfortunately public education is sadly underfunded. At a school like mine, we don't have extra funds raised for the classroom by parent organizations. I spend from my own pay when I can, but many of the 21st Century tools we require come from generous donors like you.

My Project

I saw a cartoon strip about a trash dump full of overhead projectors. Unfortunately, an outdated, poor quality overhead projector is the reality in our classroom. We need a document camera so that students can see clear examples of writing samples, worksheets, textbooks, shared reading, and the list goes on. Our overhead projector is blurry, off-balance, and burns through light bulbs way too fast. The carpet would give the students a comfortable inviting place to sit and work together and a place to listen to other students' presentations. Your donation will provide us with a document camera and a small rug to cover the cables so that students don't trip and the technology is protected.

Most schools in our district don't even have overhead projectors anymore.

they are just obsolete. My students deserve access to the technology that makes learning clear and understandable. A document camera will give us that clarity.
