My students need Spheros, Osmos, iPads, and a Botley Robot because my classes are large and I am trying to put more technology in their hands.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a low-income school. However, just because the majority of my students are on free and reduced lunch doesn't mean that determines or alters the way I teach. I teach to the top. I keep it fun and engaging. Sometimes that's hard when you're teaching math (or STEAM activities) all day long and many of the students are below grade-level. But, each day we give it our best.
You have to try.
Is it okay to make mistakes? Yes. Is it okay to have fun? Yes. Math can be fun. I try to show my students that each day. Just today, a student said, "This is like art!" My heart jumped! I want to make learning math and science feel like that for them all the time.
My Project
My Mathematicians love using technology. We love to use our Osmos. My students all the way from K-5 get excited about it. Unfortunately, my class sizes range in size from 25 - 32 students. I don't have enough to make adequate size groups. I currently only have enough for about for groups, which means they have over 6 students in each groups. This is loud, large, and not the most conducive.
By gaining another iPad, more Osmo kits, Sphero Minis, and a Botley Robot not only would my students’ learning experience thrive but they would also have so many more options available to them.
I want to create thinkers who don’t just solve a mathematical problem, but know how to think outside of the box. Coding, which many of these tech tools provide, allows them to do that.
It is my hope to be able to put this type of technology into my students’ hands before the school year closes.
