My Project
This summer, I experienced the amazing ability to make a difference in a child who could not put words to his wants. With the help of a body sock (utilized during occupational therapy), he was suddenly able to calm his body, feel a sense of direction, and laugh for the first time. He was able to function, and even assemble a challenging puzzle with little help and encouragement. This was truly amazing to me!!
In effect of this inspiring experience, I would like to gift my students with this powerful resource.
If the body sock were available in various sizes, they could fit the students comfortably and make their school days feel better.
In addition to the body sock, my students are working on their handwriting skills including letter size and pencil grasp. The pencil grippers and adaptive paper would work wonders to support that. The clay dough and puzzles would supplement those goals by allowing them to strengthen their fine-motor and visual-perceptual skills. The face mirrors would allow students to use play to express their feelings, thereby facilitating an environment of joy and success.
I have found that with the ideal sensory tools, students thrive and enjoy their school experiences so much more. Thank you so much for your interest in this project.
