My Students

"Can you draw this for me?" has been a constant question asked of me when my students are working in their science notebooks. I need the tools to help develop confidence in their artistic abilities so they can work like a scientist.

If you came in my classroom you would immediately fall in love with my eager to learn students.

Unfortunately they come from very limited backgrounds. Limited in resources and experiences. In our school more than 80% are receiving free or reduced lunch. So you can imagine before they came to school what kind of experiences they have been able to have in this fast paced world. A problem I have encountered as we work on science projects and notebooks is that fifth graders don't have much confidence in themselves as artists. They are afraid to experiment with the right side of their brain. I want to help develop this confidence in them.

My Project

I have a goal to educate myself in the development of children's creativity. The books I've requested, Art From Intuition, Decorated Journal, and Dream-Makers Guide to Science, will help me learn how to inspire my students for great things and confidence in their artistic abilities. In my science class we keep journals of the experiments we do, make drawings of things we observe, and create posters and models of what we have learned for assessment. The different types of medium I have requested will help develop my students as artists which in return will help them develop as scientists. I would like to be able to proved my students with this variety because as unique individuals they can grow in the medium that suits their personality. One student may feel more creative using oil pastels while another develops with chalks or painting. I also plan to have the students create models using clay. this will be especially helpful when studying landforms. Brains can connect to 3D imaging.

With the scientific developments in our world today I want to develop scientists in my classroom.

To be a successful scientist students must first feel successful in their ability to record observations and create model representations of their findings. Your donations can make this possible with my students who have the abilities and desire, but have limited resources.
