Help me give my students various types of manipulative and creative materials to enhance their reading comprehension. Materials include masking tape, Play Doh, aluminum foil, Legos, craft sticks and rubber bands. Imagine the possibilities!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is filled with motivated, creative, and hardworking students. They love any and all activities that they can create and use their hands! Each day is a new chance to explore, share and learn. As a class and family, we motivate one another and love a challenge.
Reaching all my learners with activities that highlight their strengths and interests is always a goal of mine.
Given the chance to create, manipulate and explore takes learning to a whole new level.
My Project
With the integration of the many creative materials requested, students will have the opportunity to make inferences, express their reading comprehension, and work their way through a reading resource with more than just a sheet of paper and pencil.
After attending a very powerful professional development in early October, Jed Dearybury presented the concept of "Destroying the Box." Within this presentation we used aluminum foil to answer a comprehension question, masking tape to provide a visual representation of Florida's history and Play Doh to express our satisfaction of the presentation.
This amazing experience, showed me how much I can bring creative and hands-on activities to my reading classroom. It is with these materials that I can change the dynamics of my class and spark that love for reading and learning.
