Help me give my students gloves and watering cans to take great care of the plants within our tree beds, which will be protected from animals with beautiful weather-proof fencing!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My inquisitive 6th grade students this year are curious hands-on learners!
My sixth grade students love animals, they are enthusiastic about watching things grow, they enjoy discussing new project ideas with each other, and most importantly: (even in middle school) they are excited about learning!
Our small K-8 school has one class per grade, with one additional special education class in the 6th grade. We are a tight-knit bunch, since most of my students have been together since kindergarten.
Although our school is located in a small corner of the Bronx, and remote learning has been quite a challenge, we are trying our best to bring our students back to school safely, while reinforcing personal connections and supporting their emotional well-being!
My Project
My students have been engaging in Outdoor Learning, which allows us to take them outside to learn skills such as gardening, park restoration, and looking after the community tree beds. They work hard at raking the leaves, planting bulbs for the spring, watering the plants, and maintaining the area clean. The students take great pride in learning skills that are not usually taught to inner-city children. They love to watch the area surrounding our school take new shape once they remove trash, weeds, and anything else that might find its way into our surrounding soil. They feel good about providing younger students with colorful plants and flowers, as well as a beautiful garden to place their "kindness rocks."
It has been challenging to keep the area clean and stop animals from trampling the flowers and smaller plants, which is why we need gloves for students to safely work on the garden, and fencing to protect their hard work.
With your help, our students can continue to enjoy their time outdoors, and can feel accomplished at seeing how they transform a small corner of our neighborhood!
