Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students come from an area of low income housing and or a shelter system nearby. Many of them have to help in raising their younger siblings, which in turn forces them to grow up way faster than they should. They look forward to Physical Education class but because of lack or exposure, their interests lead to a handful of activities.
A lot my students lose out on the opportunity of being a kid.
Thus, lose out on exploration and having fun as a child in ways that we may remember. You can see the toll it takes on many of them on a daily basis.
They deserve a break from their everyday stressors even if I can provide it for an hour a day.
My Project
The equipment that I selected will enable me to provide various obstacle course activities, that my students can create themselves. Human tunnels, various size hurdles and balance planks will allow children to reinforce their motor skills.
These resources will allow for student choice and creativity.
I know they will enjoy the idea of cooperating, building and participating their creations with fellow peers. This project will take Physical Education to a higher order of thinking.
Ideally, I would like to give teams of students ample time to create their own obstacle course. When time has expired, teams will then get the opportunity to share their creations and partake in each others course.
