My Students

This year, I am working with a great bunch of 1st graders! In my class, I have 27 of the brightest and best (at least I think so)! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.

My students and I have created a safe, engaging, home-like environment for us to learn and grow together.

We will use this time together for not only them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.

That's where DonorChoose.org comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.

My Project

I work with a great bunch of 1st graders at a low-income charter school in Detroit. Our school is fairly new, so not every classroom has a lot of supplies. This is one of the reasons why we need these leveled readers.

My first graders love to read!

They love it when it is their turn to go to the independent reading center or when we do DEAR (Drop Everything And Read)! They however need a variety of books to choose from for those times.

These books will give my first graders more to choose from. They will also be able to challenge themselves and pick books that are a level higher than what they are currently reading at.
