It is 8:00 pm on a Wednesday night in January, and 30 students, sometimes more, are hard at work. You hear the clicking of keys on a computer. The sounds of drills as parts are being put together or taken apart to be retooled. Some students are testing a lighting system for the storage trailer. Others are counting and sorting parts-each essential to a successful season. This is just a glimpse into one of the many late nights as these high school students build a robot for competition.
Most of these students are Honors/AP students in grades 9-12, and, nearly half receive free/reduced lunch.
Each must maintain a certain GPA and dedicate hours of time beyond studies to be on this school-wide team. Yet, this group of students are not defined by circumstance. This team defines themselves through their hard-work and dedication to success. They define themselves as a family.
My Project
After six weeks of designing, programming, building and refining the industrial-sized robot, this team will test their skills on the field on competition. At this two-day competition, the team will work together to assess and revise strategies for working with and against other teams. Students will need to make adjustments and repairs in the moment. This type of competition is as close to real world robotics/engineering challenges these student may encounter.
Your donation will help students take part in a competition that will allow the team to possibly qualify for the state competition.
It is one of only two competitions this team will be able to attend during this competition. It is one of only two chances for this team to qualify for the state level competition. With your help, it will happen.
