My Students

In my classroom, all students are Star Scholars. They are loved unconditionally. Scholars are provided a safe space to take risks, be vulnerable, and develop a sense of childhood curiosity and wonder.

They are thirsty for knowledge, eager to please, and desperately want to be better at "school".

We have worked so very hard to cultivate a strong culture of learning that I can honestly say that their drive for success is inspirational. They have endless energy and enormous hearts!

My Scholars are innocent, kindred spirits who deserve so much more than what our society has given them. For many of my students, their future relies solely on their experiences in our school. Regardless of the unthinkable barriers that my Scholars experience outside of our four walls, they know that my belief in them never wavers.

My Project

Noticing what one brings to any person and context allows for authentic human-centered design, not “you” centered design. This workshop is a phenomenal opportunity to develop my self-awareness as an equity-centered designer of learning experiences for my students. I will learn how to build a practice of self-awareness of my own identity, values, emotions, biases, and assumptions. Then, I will work to begin to reveal my authentic self, building on my blind spots to be able to empathize with humility, curiosity, and courage. I will develop my ability to focus and reflect on my actions, emotions, insights, and impact as an instructional designer to better provide my students a service of equity and inclusion.

I have participated in a Standford Design Thinking professional learning experience in the past and it was absolutely the best professional development that I have ever experienced.

Their workshops are authentic, meaningful, and impactful. My experience completely transformed my mindset as an educator and reinvigorated my passion for the work. I am hopeful for another opportunity for this kind of development so that I can be my best self and the kind of teacher that my students deserve!
