Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a math teacher, I incorporate the use of whiteboards to enhance student engagement on a daily basis. Students use the whiteboards during small group instruction (six students or less). The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained from frequent use.
The interactive nature of electronic whiteboards can help students engaged with, collaborate around and apply the concepts taught.
Electronic whiteboards reduce or eliminate all of the problems of disappearing markers and erasers and stained and otherwise damaged white boards.
In addition, the classroom can benefit from cleaning supplies. It is important to keep the learning environment clean as students enter, engage and leave.
Students usually get one set of supplies to last the year. Typically, at about the halfway point, supplies start to run out. A supply of notebooks and pencils will go far in providing students with some basic needs with which to complete the year.
