This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teach the children well and let them lead the way," this line is from Greatest Love of All, by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. And I firmly believe what the song says. In this day and age of technology, it is still vital that children have the opportunity to use technology on a regular basis. We need to teach children strong technological skills because they will, one day, lead the way in this technological age.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds.

They also have diverse ability levels. We are in a large school district that has been severely hit by budget cuts. We have very few supplies and there is definitely no money to be spent on "extras." My class is full of curious students who love to learn through hands-on lessons. They are bright and enjoy learning. They need exposure to lessons that cannot be taught using just the materials supplied by our district.

My Project

My students have been learning about financial literacy through books we received on Donor's Choose and lessons from Take Charge America. I want to take that learning to another level by getting a Cricut and necessary materials. These will be used to make various items (cups, water bottles, t-shirts, and more) that the students can then sell as a fundraiser for a science camp trip they take.

Doing this will help them learn about financial literacy through firsthand experiences.

Students will learn about goods and services, earning a profit, budgets, saving, investing, and starting a business. They will do this while earning money for a worthwhile cause, their trip to Science camp.
