This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in an underprivileged community in the Bronx. They are are young second graders eager to explore and learn. Each student in my class wants to learn, however, each students has very different needs for them to be successful in the classroom. Some need modifications to the learning environment, others, need access to technology so that they can access the general education curriculum.
My students are sometimes forced to grow up too fast and they deserve to have the best possible education that meets their social, emotional, and academic needs!
My Project
These 2nd graders are learning what it is like to be back in school for the first time since they were in Kindergarten! We wanted to make their reopening experience as smooth and comfortable for them as possible. These students have chosen items that they believe would help them make progress in their education both academically and social emotionally.
Teachers and students brainstormed items that will help the students be successful and comfortable in the classroom this year.We created this project to support the students and the teachers this school year.
Students have asked for board games and math center games to have a play with their friends during recess, especially in the winter months when they cannot go outside to play. Throughout the pandemic, students were very limited in their ability to be able to see their friends. Now that things are moving in a positive direction, we would love to provide them with the opportunity to socialize and have fun with their peers!
Students have asked for iPad styluses, books they are interested in reading, and comfortable seating to help them complete their work in the classroom. Students use their iPads throughout the school day and at home in almost every subject. Now that they use their iPads so much they have realized that styluses are crucial for their work to be completed neatly and to the best of their ability. Students also want comfortable seating to help them focus and read longer while in school. Also, encouraging students to explore their interests through books will creating lifelong readers!
