My Students
I am teaching the second annual Digital Media workshop at our school. Last year, a grant funded Flip video cameras and 2 Macbook computers on which to edit their digital creations. Now, however, my students are taking their skills to new heights and need tripods for more professional products.
My students all come from at-risk environments where the likelihood that they would graduate high school is extremely low.
By opening a new school that offers flexible scheduling and self-paced courses that still meet Indiana Academic Standards, my students are more confident than ever before that they can graduate. Courses such as my Digital Media workshop help students strengthen their soft skills, such as professionalism and creativity, but also 21st century skills such as collaboration and technology integration.
My Project
The students in the Digital Media Workshop are all creating some sort of movie about a social issue such as bullying, gang violence, poverty, etc. They have amazing ideas, but feel limited on how professional they can make their movies because they do not have tripods to hold their cameras. Some of my students are interested in incorporating stop-animation as a portion of their movie, which is highly specialized and requires the precision of a tripod. Other students would like a tripod to steady the camera in interviews and other re-enactments.
Your donation to this project will help my students take their creativity to a higher level.
Students who thought they would never amount to anything are discovering skills and talents that they never knew they had. My students are also learning new ways to express their academic knowledge without paper and pencils. It is imperative for our 21st century learners to have 21st century equipment to accomplish these tasks.
