Help me give my students the opportunity to use polaroid cameras to integrate science and art.

My Project
Every June, I take my students, who are part of the Oceanside High School Academy endorsement program, to Hurricane Island, located off the coast of Maine, for a four day overnight interdisciplinary learning retreat. The students participate in science field research with science educators of the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, and connect their island experience creatively with an artist-in-residence.
The instant polaroid cameras that I am requesting will be used to capture the entwining of industry and nature that students see on the island and will be integrated into their art pieces.
The students will study how the granite industry once carved itself into the landscape of Hurricane, and how nature has reclaimed the island. They will then, through their science exploration, learn how climate change caused by industry will impact the island and Maine's fishing economy. Students will be asked to create sculptures that are inspired by their learning and by the remnants of industry and the natural environment around them. The polaroids will allow students to capture images that inspire them on the island and integrate them into their place-based sculptures.
Our students have made the choice to be part of the Academy endorsement program which requires them to take our most demanding courses while participating in enrichment learning opportunities. They are going above and beyond to make the most of their learning. At the end of a long school year, they are willing to give up the first days of summer to extend their learning on an island. They deserve to have a rich interdisciplinary learning experience outside of the traditional classroom walls.
