This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a mid to low social economic school in a community where parents work many hours to provide for their children. Some of these students don't see their parents that much during the week which makes it hard for them to learn those social norms that their parents try to teach them. Board games is a fun way for students to practice those social norms with their peers. Board games help students figure out how to share with one another, ask questions and make polite statements, and how to work together with others! Plus, board games are a fun way to learn content that makes it easy for students (and they don't realize they are learning!).

My Project

Think of a time when something you remember that you learned in school. Got it? It's probably a time when a teacher turned the lesson into some kind of game or made it enjoyable for you. Well the goal in my classroom is to incorporate board games into the classroom.. The big question you have is... WHY? To make it fun, interesting, and to help build that foundation for students!

We remember things when they are interesting to us not BORING ones.

These are also not board games like Monopoly, Clue, or Life; but games that are meaningful and will help our students learn science, math, and reading Schema! Some of these games help students understand how an element is created, or how climate changes the life of animals, or even how different railroad routes connect cities in the United States. These games are created to add and extra level of knowledge for our students.
