My Project
I teach resilient, hardworking, English Language Learners in Title I-funded, low-income community in Brooklyn, New York. We are a diverse community with many different educational needs. Our vision is to rise above educational expectations, to rise to be educational explorers and innovators, to rise to be leaders in life, to rise to meet the needs of our families, and to rise to ensure that every child has an opportunity for success!
The cold weather in New York always brings in new challenges for students who do not have the essentials to keep them warm or fed.
Imagine being a student who is shy and reserved, but hungry. Most of my students are newcomers and speak very little English. For them, snacks I am asking for are more than just treats; they are essentials because they are too shy to express their needs openly but greatly appreciate the support when offered.
