This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The school year is off to a bang! My new group of small scholars have been lovely to get to know. Every child has a strong, unique personality. Every student is at a different level academically. Most are Latino, and first or second generation Americans. They receive free breakfast and lunch every day.
Despite cultural and financial challenges, I know that my students can have the same growth mindset and executive functioning skills as their wealthier peers across the bay.
I am reminded of this when they tell me they love school and love learning. Students from this community are more than capable of achieving greatness, and I am excited to foster it!
My Project
The Brentwood Family Farm has had a wonderful tradition as the first field trip our kindergarten students embark on for years. Since students in our school learn through thematic units, this trip will make our animal and farm units come alive!
There is nothing better than learning with real experiences, in real places.
and with real things. The owners of the farm prepare learning activities for the students so they can get the most out of their visit, too.
I really hope students don't miss out on this field trip just because of their financial background. They deserve to go new places, even if their families can't afford to or can't leave work to take them new places.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
