This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every morning my students are fired up and ready to learn. They look at the objective board to see what new knowledge they will gain that day or week. We are a creative bunch who look beyond textbooks and worksheets. We collaborate with one another and encourage each other to do our best.
My school is a Title 1 school.
It is located in a high poverty neighborhood. All students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many students have not had the opportunity to venture outside of the neighborhood or the city. This hasn't stopped them from wanting to explore the world they live in. They are eager to read more, write more and share their learning with others. I want to give my students the opportunity to look beyond the neighborhood they live in and dream big.
My Project
We need to update the 3 working desktops in our classroom. Since our space is limited, having portable computers will allow students to collaborate and research topics for social studies, science, reading, and writing. Not only will they be able to access the Internet for research, but they can also present their findings by creating brochures, webpages, PowerPoint presentations, and even upload videos they have made on topics they are learning about. Since funding is limited for field trips, we can use the 6 requested Chromebooks to take virtual field trips, especially to the many missions that line the California coast. It is unfortunate that many students don't have computers at home. Because of this, their keyboarding skills are also limited. Having the extra computers will allow them to practice basic keyboarding skills as well as get them prepared for the 21st century.
Donation to the project will help students use modern technology.
Through the use of these Chromebooks students will have better opportunities to collaborate, communicate, think critically, and create.
