This large high school theatre class is eager to experience a magical live production such as "Wicked" at Dallas Summer Musicals. They have a passion for theatre and hunger to see a large live show. Drama club officers Savanna and KK are leading the charge to get them to a Broadway show.
While learning how theatre shows are produced, we watched the "Behind The Emerald Curtain" series on YouTube that gave us a behind-the-scenes tour of the production of "Wicked." This series showed costumes, makeup, set design, sound and light design, special effects, etc. Seeing all of this has made students eager to see the show for themselves! The students have acted in school productions and in the One Act Play competition. They are hungry to see a live, large-scale production and get the full theatre experience.
Students have seen the behind-the-scenes on YouTube of how "Wicked" was put together. Seeing it will allow them to get a complete picture of the show and an understanding of how a show of this scale is put together. Seeing "Wicked" will give my students a wider perspective and a theatre experience that they will not forget! Many of these students are interested in pursuing careers in theatre - this experience is sure to fuel that passion and help launch them into those college majors.
In Their Own Words
We want to experience a live Broadway show in Dallas. We've studied the making of "Wicked" through the "Behind the Emerald Curtain" YouTube videos, and want to see it all come together in the live show.
We will make our project happen by trying to raise money. We will be working hard to accomplish goals and dreams. We will hold car washes, bake sales, etc. to contribute to the fundraising. We will encourage and support the other students to get excited about this opportunity.
It will gives us an actual theatre experience. It would give us the opportunity to witness what we have learned and studied throughout the year. We live in a small town in a school that does not have a lot of money. This will help enrich our lives. It's important because, as a young theatre class, we need to see professionals in person. This could help us become better actors and crew members. We could learn from this experience and have a fun time doing it.
