My Students

The three schools where I teach are very diverse with students from all over the world. My students enjoy reading, project-based learning activities, robotics and being creative. I have the unique opportunity to teach Horizons, a gifted class, for 3 different schools. My students shine when I bring Legos or electronic kits into a lesson about animals or problem solving skills. With our students' economic backgrounds, they don't get many opportunities at home to interact with materials to encourage creative thinking.

My Project

One of the major units that I teach is aviation. Out of all the units that I teach aviation is my students favorites. In my aviation unit we build airplane, gliders, rockets, and etc. An area that my unit does not include is drones. With the technology advancements in our world, drones are the future of aviation.

With the materials in this grant, I will be able to enhance my aviation unit with drones.

We would start out this unit with a book study about drones with the literature provided by this grant. We would also research different types of drones and their uses. After the literacy and research students would use the Lego WeDo kit to create their own drone with a moving part.

The unit will end with a celebration of the learning about drones. We will share our research about drones with other students and teachers. During this celebration, time students will have the opportunity to fly the drone through a course designed in my room.

Thank you for giving me a chance to impact my students in an awesome way! One of my favorite quotes is,"If we teach students today as we did yesterday, we rob them of tomorrow." Thank you for helping me teach my students in 21st Century skills that will help them in the future!
