My Students
Help our classroom leave 1980's behind and move into the present with books on CD and comfortable pillows to replace our old and worn couches.
I teach the youngest learners in my school in a high-need area in New York.
This is the first time in school for them, as they are in pre-K. They need a comfortable and inviting environment, so that they will truly begin to love learning and have a joyful experience at school. A quality beginning to a school career is so important to foster life-long lovers of learning. The school I teach at is over 100 years old and a lot of the furniture and equipment is in desperate need of an update.
My Project
My students need some wireless headphones for our listening center as well as some book on CD and some comfy pillows. We are in desperate need of a mini-makeover for our library area. The small couches we have are not cozy at all. They are old, and worn, with screws loose and missing. That is why I would like to replace them with pillows, so the children can be comfortable as they listen to the books on CD and pretend to read books we have already learned in class. The wireless headphones will allow my students to listen to books on CD in a comfortable way, without the hassle or danger of wires. The books on cd will help my children develop early reading behaviors, such as holding the book the right way, turning pages, and following words from left to right. These skills will help them as they begin to learn to read. The Cd's will also allow my children to listen to some favorite children's books and therefore develop their love of reading and learning. The tapes and tape recorder we have currently are technologies from twenty to thirty years ago! Please help us update them!
It is essential that the youngest readers have a warm and inviting place with up to date technology in order to learn to truly love reading and learning.
