Take Off Into Earth Science

My students need a wireless projector and Parrot drone in order to get an all-access experience in Earth Science.

My Students

My students come from rural central Virginia. They come from a variety of different backgrounds, and all ranges of socioeconomic status.

My students are active learners who thrive on new concepts.

They love engaging activities that relate to everyday life and bring old concepts into a new light.

Students in my classroom enjoy discovery, innovation, and interactive learning. With the help of technology, my students are diving into Earth Science concepts and doing more than just scratching the surface preparing for a state test!

My Project

Take off into Earth Science. My requested wireless projector will allow my students to learn outside of the classroom. We could go outside, in the hall, or in a new building to explore all that Earth Science has to offer! Another benefit to the projector would be the versatility and capability to project two things at once within my classroom. I can have two groups of students working on different aspects of the content at the same time.

Many of my students require different learning mechanisms and styles.

By getting another projector, I can play a video on one projector, and have a manipulative SMARTboard activity on the other projector. This can help with differentiation in the classroom, as well as assuring mastery of content.

The Parrot drone is a key learning tool for my Science Exploration class. Students can recreate the SkyCrane used on the Mars Curiosity mission, and learn about air resistance, drag, and friction. By using the drone for hands-on learning, my students can get a real-life application of Earth Science while studying Mars!
