Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everybody sing! "Take me out to the ball game. Take me out to the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and Crackerjacks. I don't care if I never get back....:" This beloved song is part of the major league seventh inning stretch and is played by the team organist. My goal is to introduce my piano/keyboard students to the king of Instruments, the organ, through field trips and a variety of interactive pipe organ lessons which will feature a wealth of science, technology, engineering, (arts of course!) and math. S.T.E.A.M.
My piano/keyboard classes consist of mostly teen zoologist, honors, advanced, Cambridge Academy and gifted students.
This school year the largest keyboard class is made up of mostly returning students, which shows their continued interest in playing the piano. This is the perfect opportunity to peek their interest in another type of keyboard instrument that also has career potential.
Located in the southern part of Florida, the school make up is 90% free or reduced lunch, 55% African-American, 40% Hispanic and 5% Native American and mixed. Our school is home to a stellar science-zoo magnet program which is nationally recognized by Magnet Schools of America.
My Project
The pipe organ is considered the King of Instruments! A program created by the American Guild of Organist called, "Pedals, Pipes and Pizza" will engage my keyboard students in the wonderful art of playing the pipe organ. I need this requested Overture 88-Key Console Digital Piano & Piano Bench Kit for student practice.
Students will understand the difference between the organ and the piano, the scientific process of the air going through the pipes to create a sound, the mechanical action that creates the sound, how organs are built, the history of the organ and more importantly, students will learn to play a song on the organ!
Finally, students will attend a Marlins game to observe the team organist play, "Take Me Out to The Ball Game."
