Take Home Reading Bags for RSP and Intervention Students
My students need sturdy book bags to take home and return to school daily. My students take between 2 and 8 books home at a time to practice reading with their families.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students work hard toward reading at their grade levels. Every day, they take books home to read with their families.
My students are in kindergarten, first, second, and third grade.
Some are special education students with reading disabilities. Many others are general education students who need help through our school's reading intervention program. I am an RSP and reading intervention teacher, working with my students in small group settings. Our goal is to increase student reading abilities so that they are eventually reading at their current grade levels. Most students at my school are from low income families.
My Project
My students are in need of sturdy book pouches that are transported from school to home, then back to school each day. The only reading bags that I have been able to provide for them are poly envelopes. These envelopes crinkle, tear, and pop their seams in a short amount of time. The School-To-Home Organizers will provide my students with sturdy book and reading log transport that they can feel proud to carry.
Sturdy, long-lasting home reading book bags will help my students feel good about the books they are carrying.
They will keep their books and reading log safe to and from school. When I am able to provide a new poly envelope (when a current one breaks down beyond use) my students light up, so happy to have something that looks nice. I want my students to be able to securely transport their leveled readers in something they can be proud to carry.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
