My Project
I'm going into my second year teaching Learning Support ELA in a low-income area. After getting to know my students last year, I know that some of them have a need to move and use mindless fidgets while working. Others go hungry all day and end up getting into fights or sleeping through their classes as a result, so then I'd spend my Sunday evenings meal prepping for them for that week. Others come into the room with very limited English, which further complicates already low reading levels. If I could have books with more visuals and even some Spanish in them, that'd be so supportive!
Your contributions would help my students feel more comfortable and successful with learning while also helping to rectify an equity issue.
The school I work at is so full of life and love, but it is not resourced the same way that the less-diverse schools in our district are. Basically, my goal with this project is to fill in the gaps I had last year to better support and love my students. Coming from low-income families, my students do not always have access to the nicest things or to people who can be there for them in the way they deserve. Having these materials provided would allow me to create a special environment while also freeing up some time and money for me, so I can come in more relaxed and be more present with them. Last year, my students felt like family to me, and I want to take care of this group like I would my family too. Thanks in advance for your partnership should you choose to come alongside me!
