The students are ready to travel the world through stories, but they just need a place in the library to stay anchored!
We have over 500 students in our school.
These eager learners come from a wide background and over 30 languages are spoken by our students. Many of our students were not born in our city, but they are eager to get to know one another and explore the world around them. In the library, we explore through reading books - both fiction and non-fiction, and navigating the internet with the help of teachers.
We focus on reading literature, information text, and using the internet to show us about ourselves, our community, and our state. Those same resources take us beyond the geography that we know to explore places all around the globe and in every nook of our imaginations.
My Project
The carpet squares I have requested will be used for primary grade students in the library. Students will use these carpet squares to remind themselves of personal space. Students at this grade are working on this concept, and the carpet squares are a very concrete way for students to "see" what a person's space looks like.
The carpet squares will also be used to reinforce concepts such as the alphabet, phoneme awareness and grouping. This is a simple, yet effective tool to manage behavior and promote learning.
The carpet squares are a very practical way of addressing a multitude of issues - behavior management and content that has been needed for some time, but was not in the budget.
This would allow all our primary students to truly have their own spot in our library.
