This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a 5th and 6th grade Autism special Education class on Core Curriculum at a Title I school. I want to make my classroom an inviting place where students can feel comfortable and are free to be in control of their own movement while they safely rock, wobble, and fidget without falling over. Having a set of six wobble chairs in the classroom will allow my students including those that have attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder to engage in healthy active movement where they can receive sensory input while they actively sit and relax. Students will be able to grab and take their wobble seat to choose a different location of the room that best suits their learning and sensory needs.

Offering my students seating choices will help increase social interaction skills as well as provide an alternative to the traditional classroom chair during small group instruction or independent work time while they focus and increase their on task behavior.

I have observed that my students work best and are more engaged when they are given choices.
