One of the rules in our room is always be persistent. The students in my class never give up no matter how difficult the task may be. We are all empowered scholars in our room, we won't give up!
My 4th grade students are a vibrant and talented group.
They are excited to learn and often catch onto new topics quickly. They are naturally curious and have a hunger to express themselves as well as learn and experience new things. Our school is a charter for arts and technology and being able to expose my students to these 21st century skills is vital to their success. Our school's mission is to provide our students with the necessary tools – based on educational research, character development and advanced technology – to become lifelong learners and productive citizens of the 21st century. Additionally, we will develop and advance best practices for engaging students and parents, training teachers, and promoting educational excellence, collaboration, and innovation. This truly describes what we set out to accomplish as a community. Parents, teachers and students are all responsible for the successes at our school and we all work hard to make our school a wonderful place.
My Project
My goal for my students is for them to always be engaged, happy, motivated and relaxed. In doing so, it is important our classroom is set up for collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. This cannot be done by having students sit in desks all day long.
Giving my students the opportunity to choose their seat will allow them to not feel pressure to sit in the same type of seat all day long as well as give them the opportunity to choose the place where they can do their best learning.
In my classroom students have the opportunity to choose the way they show their knowledge and now I want them to have the opportunity to choose their seat. Having different types of seating in my classroom such as a giant rug with bean bag chairs, stools, Wobble chairs and balance balls gives students multiple options to choose from. For instance, the rug and bean bag chairs will give students a comfortable place to do their work. In room 15 it is very important that all students are comfortable and safe in the classroom environment. By ensuring safety and comfort students are better able to do their best learning. With wobble chairs and balance balls students will be able to move while staying actively engaged in lessons as well as staying physically fit. Students will be using their muscles in order to stay balanced while seated as well as improving their posture. In addition, different types of seating will allow students to move more freely around the classroom which will be extremely helpful in group work. In the end, students are much more engaged in their learning when they are responsible for making their own choices in how they will succeed.
