My students deserve every advantage! Unfortunately, there just isn't enough funding available to teachers like me who want to give students a varied and beneficial educational experience. I need your help so we can help the students together! Let's bring new textbooks for a new class to them!
My students have dreams and goals!
Many of them will be the first in their family to graduate from high school, and/or go to college. Based on my conversations with my students, approximately 50% would like to major in business, and I want to give them the foundation for success. This course will help them achieve their dreams! I teach at a magnet school in Pennsylvania that has a specialty in JROTC. 100% of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch.
Just 2 weeks ago, I submitted and successfully completed a similar project, requesting 8 Intro. to Business books. In just 72 hours, the request was fulfilled. Let's keep that energy going and bring more books to my students, so that we have enough for close to a full classroom set! More and more students are hearing about the books, and want to take my class next year because they heard about it this year. Let's fulfill their dreams together!
My Project
I found a comprehensive business curriculum that is published by Glencoe. It is called Introduction to Business, and Standard and Poors was involved in the publication. The textbook includes relevant vocabulary that will expand their knowledge base. Each chapter connects the material with other subject areas (such as English and math). It also includes questions that will assist them with standardized test practice. Finally, and the part that seems most exciting to me, there are projects at the end of each chapter that require the use of various technological tools and software applications.
Prior to beginning my teaching career, I worked in corporate finance, budgeting and accounting. I have the real-world experience that is valued highly in many industries. This expertise will also serve to broaden the educational experience for my students. As soon as I mentioned that the publisher donated books, my students beamed because they knew how hard I worked to make this happen for them.
This project is important to me because I want to help my students continue to succeed.
I want to help them be more productive, successful students, both in high school and in college. I want to provide them with the foundation that they need in order to be well-versed in business vocabulary and concepts. This will help them whether they major in business or in another academic area. The book has many "real-world" applications that will help them manage their finances in the future as well.
