Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are 97% low income and free lunch. We have a school of predominantly Hispanic, 900 PreK to 5th graders. They come to school without a familiarity with those favorite books that were read to us every night. Reading and understanding what you read is basic to academic success.
My students live in a low income area where they and their families are in survival mode.
This reading system will allow them to read independently with instant feedback. It is engaging and exciting and will be the beginning of a love of reading which will take them to magical places.
My Project
The Tag Reading System engages students with familiar characters children love. It allows students to read independently at their own pace and gives them instant feedback. This is a wonderfully engaging reading system and it is fun and easy for the children to use. It is a school reading system that can connect to classroom computers for additional resources. It is a wonderful introduction to our increasingly digital environment.
Our world is increasingly digital but my students have little exposure to many devices that most children take for granted.
This system and books will allow my first graders what for many of them is their first experience with the magic and wonder they can find in a book.
