'Tag, you're it.' Just like in the game of tag, I want my students to feel the fun and excitement of reading a book.
I teach a very diverse group of first graders in a suburban community in Texas.
My students come from so many diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged homes. Most do not have the resources needed or the extra time spent with them that is needed to help them excel in reading. They are very sweet children who just need that engaging reading experience to motivate and encourage their learning. Half of my students are identified as English being their second language, which definitely creates a language barrier. English is a hard language to learn and it is often easier to learn by hearing others speaking it or seeing yourself and others speaking it. Also, one third of my class has been identified as 'at-risk' in reading. I want all my students to excel in school as well as in their lives, and this project will aid in breaking the language barrier and assist them in our goal to excel! It will also give them hands on experiences with technology that they may never get in their lives.

The Tag Reading System by Leapfrog brings stories to life like never before! Now the number one best-selling reading system, the Tag Reader is loved around the world with more than 28 awards in six countries. As children touch the Tag Reader to the pages of specially printed storybooks, words talk, pictures sing and stories live out loud, engaging children's senses to make reading a rich, fulfilling experience. As children develop comprehension of books read aloud or independently, they explore the uses and functions of written language. They begin to construct meaning, eventually applying critical skills to make inferences and draw conclusions. The Tag will also help with developing vocabulary, phonics skills, and print awareness.
Your contribution would create a classroom of actively, engaged learners who can achieve more reading success in the classroom.
This will not only benefit the students academically but also provide the confidence and pride in their reading skills that will provide a foundation for their future education.
