It is such a thrilling feeling for a student to ask you to read him/her a story. It is a challenge when they all want to read a different story at the same time. What do you do when you want to fill everyone's request to have a favorite story read on a given day?
Every year I have the honor of working with at least 10 preschoolers in a urban, high risk public school in Virginia.
After the first few months in school, the children become attached to many books and want to hear them over and over. Each child has his/her favorite story they want the teacher to read. Some of my children are not read to at home. As a teacher who loves reading, I want to fulfill each child's request but I am only one person. I also want to read and introduce new books (during the school day). The Tag Reading System and books will help solve the problem and allow several children to have books read to them.
My Project
The Tag Reading System allows a child to read a book independently. Research has shown a strong correlation between the amount of times a child hears repeated readings of books and a child's comprehension, vocabulary, oral language and reading skills. Research has also shown the importance of getting a child interested in reading at an early age. The Reading Tag System will allow the children to have the option to hear stories during center choice time and other times during the day. The Tag System will also allow parents who have problems reading to listen to the Tag System read the story with their preschooler.
Your donation to our class will be considered much more than a resource.
We will consider the Reading Tag System as an extra teacher who is taking time to sit and read to one of our little ones. Help us teach the love of reading to our class.
