My Students
English comes easily for most of us, however my students struggle with our language and vocabulary every day.
My school has a very large ESL population, nearly half!
We are also a high poverty school in an urban district with few resources and very little technology. Helping these students to learn vocabulary when they are more worried about where dinner is coming from is difficult. It is important to present information to them in a fun and educational way.
My Project
By using the TAG reading system for science, social studies, and reading I will be able to make new words fun. I would love to have these TAG pens as a learning center where they can explore different animals, learn geography and history, and read books on their own for my lower students.
Another great aspect of this system is the spelling program. Many of my students still spell phonetically, and this will allow them to work with words in an interactive, entertaining way.

This technology is something that will be used in my classroom for years to come, and will impact the learning of many students struggling with English vocabulary.
