My Students
My students are avid readers, but need more support in order to become independent readers. Having an e-reader will allow students to have reading instruction personalized during their independent reading time, while I am focused on direct small group instruction.
I teach in a high-poverty, urban school where almost all students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Families face real problems in meeting their basic needs, but my first graders are enthusiastic learners. They love the empowered feeling they get when reading is something THEY can do and not always done for them.
My Project
Having an e-reader will allow me to utilize engaging apps for not only reading, but also other subject areas such as math, social studies and science. This will allow my students time to practice mastery of skills with necessary feedback even during independent work time.
