My Students
I teach a K/1 class with 3 other teachers in a low-income, high poverty school district. Our students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. There are many demands emotionally and academically.
Our students are champions each day when it comes to overcoming these obstacles.
Our K/1 kids are hands-on learners who love to explore the world around them and help each other. They work hard each day to do their best in reading, writing, and math. They are the most loving kids around.
My Project
I am writing this project to gain the materials needed to help my kids to learn to read. There is research stating the multi sensory approach is the best way for young kids.
We learn by using tactile materials.
The touch and read phonics word match help children master CVC words, vowel sounds, and blends and digraphs—one phoneme at a time! Kids just select a word card and touch the textured dots as they say each sound. The snap and build set hands-on picture boards and letter clips that help them learn to spell. The sentence match set will build phonics skills and master CVC words within the context of simple sentences! The sentence cards have a textured dot for each phoneme in the focus words, plus arrows to help kids blend the sounds together.
An added benefit of these materials is quite motivating and engaging to many children.
Thank you for reading this project to help me gain these tactile activities to enhance learning and memory.
