it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Shredderman fights for justice and stands up to bullies. He is our class' superhero. We are anxious to read more about him. Can you help? My class of 25 is made up of a diverse group of ESL, low-income fifth graders. Reading achievement is so important to their success, we spend much of our days reading great books and learning.
We first met Shredderman, the kid Super Hero Bully Buster, when a fellow teacher lent our class her only copy of Shredderman Book #1. I read the book aloud as the students sat around on the classroom floor (our special reading spot). Shredderman's actions and personality immediately engaged my class of fifth graders. We laughed, worried, and predicted what might happen next. My students are now still sitting around, listening to me as I read the continuation, Shredderman #2. Although the story is still as exciting, listening to me, is getting a little frustrating.
Wouldn't it be great for each student to have their own personal copy of Shredderman #3. Then we could read in groups and at home. Not only would the students' reading skills be enhanced, each student would now be able to have their own personal copy of a heroic tale which teaches valuable life lessons. Having their own books would make the reading experience of Shredderman #3 so very special. We need enough copies of the book so everyone can have their own (and one extra just in case we get a new friend or there is an accident!)
The lessons in Shredderman not only help in reading comprehension; this book teaches the life lessons our youth need today. Be the person who puts a book in an anxious reader's hands. Let my students experience a true book club experience and forever possess their own copy of a beloved, heroic tale. Please help us read to achieve.
