it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day at lunch Rock band club students practice across three classrooms. Students are typically standing at my classroom door, waiting to get in, as the last class before lunch files out, and they stay until the last second possible before going on to afternoon classes.
Rock band club students perform at school assemblies and at off campus events as well.
Our school's home football games have a rock band perform instead of a marching band. Students not only practice every day at lunch but after school as well. Rock band club offers students the opportunity to join together with friends and play music they want to play. As a performing arts magnet, our school incorporates arts across the curriculum, but it's also very important for students to have the chance to pursue their own interests, outside of curricular requirements.
My Project
Drum kits are very expensive. Even though so-called complete drum kits begin around $500 dollars, the cymbals most kits come with are minimal at best and more typically almost useless. A good set of cymbals can easily cost twice as much as the so-called complete drum kit. These cymbal packs will upgrade the drum kits in our primary and secondary practice spaces. If we receive these new cymbal kits, our old cymbals will be passed on to the school's third, fourth, and fifth kits.
These are expensive cymbals, but our students are playing well, and they deserve to play on good gear.
We now have more student bands ready to play at our Rock band club assemblies than we have time for. Even though at least three of our student bands have already played at clubs on the Sunset Strip, they still like to play at their high school, and it's great to be able to support them this way. Thank you!
