Tablets Update Our Technology Lacking Classroom

My students need a tablet, a case, a book cover, and extra memory card to assist in testing and support the new Common Core curriculum.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Horowitz's classroom raised $1,060

My Students

I teach a class of 31 eager fourth grade students which include 2 resource students who are hard working and take pride in all of their accomplishments that they are learning each day. They love to see the results of all of their hard work. They are a diverse group of children from many backgrounds.

When testing Dibels, CORE K12, and Smarter Balanced for Common Core on outdated computer equipment, it comes down to the fact that it isn't what the child knows, but how fast the teacher can utilize the computer during the time testing.

A touch screen method to test is a must to accurately determine the true test scores of students. Our school is a charter school who is in the Title II category. Most of the state and district's budget goes to schools with Title I eligibility so that leaves a school like ours with hardly any funding for much needed new technology to get the jobs done that are district mandated.

My Project

My students need a tablet and accessories for testing. I have a group of 31 fourth grade students who are hardworking and proud of all of their accomplishments. The district has mandated new testing to monitor their growth and academic progress. These tests are all timed and it has come down to the fact that giving these tests on old outdated computers has hindered the child and teacher from seeing the true potential that the student has earned. Plus it will last for years to come. A touch screen pad lets the teacher keep up with the students progression on the test, while a desktop computer with mouse makes the student have to wait to answer the next question while the teacher moves the mouse from one location on the test to another in order to score. These tests are timed, and you can't get a true result of the child's ability when you know that much of the time was eaten up trying to manipulate a mouse on a slow outdated computer.

I want to see the true results of my students accomplishments and not be based on how fast I can maneuver the computer mouse.

My students need the technology of a touch screen pad on the Samsung Tab S , with the necessary computer cords and accessories, in order to fully show what they know in DIBELS, CORE K12, and Smarter Balanced Common Core testing. Use of a touch screen is the only way to properly administer this test for fair and accurate results. The children will benefit greatly.
