Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day ready to learn, and determined to succeed. They get so excited when they go up a reading level or do well on a Math test. As their teacher, I want to be able to provide them with all the tools they need to succeed.
I am a second grade teacher in a title I funded public school on Staten Island.
I teach a 12:1:1 class with 12 students that have challenges ranging from learning disabilities to speech and language impairments and autism. They struggle to keep up with the Common Core Curriculum and need a lot of support. As their teacher, it is my job to do everything possible to make the curriculum accessible to them.
My Project
Having these tablets will allow for different types of learning in my classroom. Most importantly, students will be using them to access a new pilot program that our classroom has been chosen to try out. It supports lower level students and helps to teach skills that they are missing, which keep them from meeting grade level standards.
This program will help to bridge the gap between where my special education students are now, and where they need to be.
We will also be using the tablets for other programs that support ELA and Math skills, as well as to teach other skills in Science and Social Studies.
These tablets will make a huge difference in my students' every day learning, and will supply the extra support that many of my students need.
