My students need more technology for the classroom to assist in research projects and lessons to promote technological literacy. We need tablets.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” My classroom has many students who want to steer themselves in a direction rich with opportunities, however they first need to gain the skills to work both independently with purpose and cooperatively in a group.
My students attend a neighborhood school in North Philadelphia filled with many teachers and staff who care deeply about their education and access to future opportunity.
All of the students in our school qualify for free lunches and many are impacted directly by traumatic experiences.
The opportunity to learn and work together is fundamental for the future success of my students. New furniture and open space to move will go a long way to helping them develop the skills they will need to be successful later in life.
My Project
These tablets will increase the available technology in my classroom from 9 pieces to 14, allowing over half the class to utilize technology for research and classroom assignments at a time.
Students can use these tablets to research topics, look up the definition of unfamiliar vocabulary words, as listening centers for eBooks, and to complete quick assessments for understanding that will guide future instruction.
Now more than ever it is important for our students to understand how technology can support learning, rather than detract from it. These tablets will ensure not only that my students are able to make the most of their time in the classroom but that they are building tech literacy skills that will support their future academic success.
